In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's week in pictures, Melbourne, LightStalking contest winners, Cityscapes V, Honesty and Jeremy Gray.
- The Associated Press has published its Week in Pictures: Global curated by AP photo editor James Okungu in New York City.
- Chris Lermanis documented Melbourne in the 1960s and 1970s as the suburbs of Fitzroy, Carlton and Collingwood underwent urban renewal. An amateur, he captured the changes with his Pentax SV camera and 50mm lens before developing the film in his bathroom where he also made prints.
- In Spirit of the Earth, Rob Wood showcases LightStalking's February contest winners. The competition carries a $100 People's Choice Award and a $250 Overall Winner Award.
- Harvey Stearn continues his Cityscapes series with Parks, Gardens & Public Places. "Most of these amenities are quite photogenic and offer photographers many enjoyable hours of capturing striking scenes and vignettes," he writes.
- In Honesty. Isn't It Refreshing?, Mike Johnston lays bare "new toy syndrome," a temporary alleviation of Gear Acquisition Syndrome. The real cure, he points out, is work.
- In The Shattered Remains of Outdoor Photographer, Imaging Resource Returned to Prior Owner, Jeremy Gray updates the sad saga. "While Imaging Resource is still somehow online, it has not been updated since April 2023," writes the former reviews editor of the publication. "Outdoor Photographer, a once-vibrant magazine and Web site, is gone. Digital Photo and Digital Photo Pro, likewise, are dead. Between just Outdoor Photographer and Imaging Resource, that is over 65 years of photography news, features, camera reviews and interviews that have been effectively destroyed."
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
