In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at director Peter Chelsom's stills, Mexican fireworks, Mount Tamalpais State Park, photographic calculators and a Sonoma 14.4 USB fix.
- In Stars in Disguise, British film-maker Peter Chelsom captures his actors in a different light. ream Role, an exhibition of his photographs is on exhibit at Fortino, Forte dei Marmi, Italy, from June 22 to July 14.
- Marco Ugarte discusses his signature image from a story about The Culture of Mexican Fireworks. "What I tried to show in the story is the makers' devotion to what they love: their art, their patron saint, their craftsmanship, their bulls and the passion of their lives: 'the pyrotechnics.' This photo summarizes all that in one image," he says.
- Eric Brooks photographs his Four-Mile Hike at Mount Tamalpais State Park, which included scaling a 14-step redwood ladder. "California redwoods just hit differently in the rainy season," he writes.
- Gilles from Nahon.ch Photographie has created seven Photographic Calculators to compute things like equivalent focal lengths, print resoltuion, depth of field and flash aperture, among others.
- Roman Loyola suggests A Possible Fix for Sonoma 14.4's problems with USB devices. The recent update apparently has a gatekeeping problem with accessories you can work around by setting Allow accessories to connect in the Privacy & Security system setting.
