In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Kamala Harris, pregnant photographers, five women photographers, WPPI, iPhone tips and yesterday's macOS 14.4.1 update.

  • In The 'Disappearing' Of Kamala Harris, Michael Shaw cites visual blindspots and media bias for the "charges of invisibility and ineffectiveness" plaguing her public persona. He reviews the "visual record of Harris's engagements" to show she has been "anything but."
  • Rob Haggart reports Photographers Report Hiding Their Pregnancy for Fear of Losing Jobs. He had asked for advice on Instagram about managing working freelance during pregnancy and got quite a story in return.
  • Chris Gampat lists Five Women Photographers worth knowing because their "images don't conform to an algorithm." They include Brooke DiDonato, Jaina Cipriano, Katerina Vo, Claire Droppert and Sydni Indman.
  • In Things I Learned at WPPI, Thom Hogan reports back after attending his first wedding and portrait photographer conference. "I think if I were in the portrait/wedding photo business I'd be asking a lot of questions of my potential subjects about how they really see themselves," he writes.
  • Rad Drew offers 10 Tips for Remarkable iPhone Photos. We know them but, uh, in the heat of the moment, we often forget one we could use. This should help.
  • Barry Collins provides a Warning for Mac Owners about yesterday's macOS 14.4.1 update, which addresses USB hub issues on external displays, Java apps quitting unexpectedly and audio plug-ins refusing to open. Reddit users, he writes, are reporting bricked Macs, disabled Thunderbolt 4 docs and unrecognized external monitors.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
