In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at World Press Photo Contest winners, Matt Slocum, a banking convention, stolen images and a scratch in the sensor box.
- Grace Ebert reports on the winners of the World Press Photo Contest from the 61,062 entries by 3,851 photographers in 130 countries. "In 2023, 99 journalists and media workers died, about 75 percent of whom were killed in the Israel-Hamas war," she writes.
- Associated Press photographer Matt Slocum got in The Right Spot for a Big Swing at the Masters to photograph Rory McIlroy on the tee as a storm approached. IN this piece, he tells the story behind the image.
- Kirk Tuck is working on Post Production of Event Images after spending the week covering a banking convention. He shot everything with his Leica SL2 camera and the 24-90mm lens.
- In Photographers on Dealing With Stolen Images, Rob Haggart presents a few suggestions, Pixsy experiences and a list of intellectual property lawyers.
- A Reddit poster bought a Fujifilm GFX100S open box from Amazon Wharehouse only to find scratches in the sensor box. How Much Does This Damage Cost? they want to know so they can argue for a discount on the discounted product rather than send the only GFXGFX00S available back. Advice ranges from painting it out, returning it anyway and testing it.
