In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at sports, the Venice Biennale, Tim Hetherington, Sofia Aldinio, the Nikon 28-400mm zoom, shooting wide open and Saturday in San Francisco.
- The Associated Press presents its Sports Week in Pictures curated by Mike Conroy.
- Guardian photographer David Levene went behind the scenes at the 60th Venice Biennale.
- Conflict photographer Tim Hetherington died 13 years ago on assignment covering the Libyan civil war. Storyteller previews the Imperial War Museum's first exhibition dedicated to his work.
- Heidi Volpe interviews Sofia Aldinio about photographing San Jose De Gracia. "The idea of photographing someone in a remote location who is simply living sounds extraordinary to me," she says. "Eugene Richards once said, 'People's lives are revolutionary in little ways.'"
- Derrick Story reviews the $1,296 Nikon 28-400mm Zoom. He writes, "I was surprised at how balanced the zoom felt on the camera. I could easily hold and shoot with one hand."
- In Shooting Wide Open, Mike Johnston suggests, "The best aperture to use is the one that suits the picture."
- From 420 to a Naked Bike Ride, This Was the Most San Francisco Day Ever assert Astrid Kane and Jesse Rogala, who put together images from several events in the city last Saturday, "an exceptionally busy and spectacularly beautiful day in San Francisco." And they, with Gina Castro, took photos.
