In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Hannah Yoon, Hollywood's golden years, Pablo Larraín, shooting infrared, travel tripods and Yosemite conditions.

  • In Meet the North Koreans Who Haven't Been Able to Return Home in Over 70 Years, Hannah Yoon photographs resettled North Korean refugees who fled southward during the Korean War 74 years ago.
  • Mee-Lai Stone features a few glamorous portraits from Hollywood's Golden Years that appear in Fabulous Faces of Classic Hollywood, a new book published by ACC Art Books.
  • Pablo Larraín, who directed Spencer, a biopic about Princess Diana, shares some of the stills he took during production. He uses his still camera to get a different perspective of what's going on in front of the film camera. The actors don't mind. "I've never seen an actor being unpleasant in front of a camera," he says.
  • On the week of his infrared workshop, Derrick Story discusses How to Buy an Infrared Camera. He recommends a full-spectrum conversion (which removed the camera's internal hot mirror) but also discusses using a 720nm filter to test the water.
  • Jasenka Grujin names The 10 Best Travel Tripods after listing seven factors to consider.
  • Lloyd Chambers gives an Eastern Sierra/Yosemite/Saddlebag Lake Area Update. Mosquitoes, wind and fierce sunlight make it tough but "Air has been brilliantly clear, spectacularly so," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
