In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Pride, Erik Vroons, Henrike Stahl, an alternative process printer, commercial clients and Breathing Color's Vibrance Baryta.

  • The Associated Press covers A Vibrant Pride Around the World curated by AP photo editor Courtney Dittmar in Tokyo.
  • In Narratives of Emancipation, Desire and Intimacy, Erik Vroons reviews PHotoESPAƑA's exhibition of the work of Erwin Olaf, who passed away in 2023. The exhibition "is an audacious juxtaposition of the various series Olaf produced over time," he writes.
  • L'Arc Sera Parmi Les Nuages (The Rainbow Will Be Among the Clouds) is the latest series by Henrike Stahl. "We found many parallels to the story of Noah's Ark that fit with my pictures," she says. "It was a kind of peace announcement, to say that from now on there will be no further flood."
  • Chris Gampat pleads with Canon and Epson to Please Make an Alternative Process Printer. "In the same way, they make large format printers, they could make printers with built-in darkroom processes," he suggests.
  • Stay Out of the Shallow End! Mike Johnston warns in reference to commercial clients. "If you are working (and charging) at the lower end of any market, you might have more business problems, more trouble getting work and more arguments with clients -- not fewer," he writes. As he did.
  • Mark Segal reviews Breathing Color's Vibrance Baryta 100 percent cotton substrate paper. He tested it on an Epson SC-P5000 printer "as it remains the printer with the widest available color gamut I've ever used." And liked what he saw. "All in all, a nice paper -- give it a try," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
