In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Arles Festival, the Glastonbury Festival, the Canon G620 printer, the Leica D-Lux 8 and photo booths.

  • Mee-Lai Stone showcases images from the Arles Festival of Photography running through Sept. 29.
  • The Associated Press presents images from the Glastonbury Festival where 200,000 music fans gathered at Worthy Farm in the southwest of England from June 26 to June 30.
  • Derrick Story evaluates the Canon G620, applauding its reduced print costs using larger ink tanks but acknowledging its shortcomings as an all-in-one device. We'd add one caveat: Canon is notorious for failing to update its all-in-one printer drivers as operating systems evolve.
  • Kirk Tuck turns up the satire as he ponders the Leica D-Lux 8. "We'll make the whole package small enough to fit in purses and into the pockets of men's 'relaxed fit' Dockers pants. We'll use the same lens we supplied to Panasonic for years and years for one of their cameras and we'll make sure the camera and lens say, 'Leica' everywhere we can," he imagines the engineers thinking. "While we're at it why don't we charge something like $1,600 for it and then make it in China. Just to save a bit of cash...."
  • Jillian D'Onfro reports The New Instagram Is a Photo Booth. Photos by Carolyn Fong. "We're in the business of building happiness machines," said Photomatica cofounder "Dirtbag" Doug Ellington whose company operates over 200 of the machines around the world. "They create such a simple thing -- just a picture of yourself -- but the novelty of having a tangible, printed photo can feel so unique and special, especially now."

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
