In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's week in pictures, the Oskar Barnack Award shortlist, styles/gear changes and Annie Leibovitz's Hideaway.

  • The Associated Press showcases its Week in Pictures: Global curated by AP photo editor Anita Baca in Mexico City and photojournalist Fatima Shbair.
  • Leica has announced the Oskar Barnack Award Shortlist of 12 photographers. The announcement and award ceremony for the winners of the main and newcomer categories will take place in Wetzlar in October.
  • In Photography Styles Change, Kirk Tuck compares two photos of CT scanners, one he took on a 4x5 camera in 1992 and one he took a couple of years ago with a digital camera. "The contrast between the images is pretty obvious," he writes. "Styles in advertising have changed over time." So had the process with the film camera requiring hours while the digital image took minutes.
  • Annie Leibovitz's Hideaway Is for Sale. She bought the Bolinas, Calif., property in 2019 and put $2 million into it after discovering Ansel Adams had photographed one of the farm's barns. Asking price: $8.9 million.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
