In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the James Webb Space Telescope, Skander Khif, The Camera Never Lies, using Face Detection to keyword and the Orton effect.

  • In Two Years of Amazing Images From the James Webb Space Telescope, Alan Taylor presents 16 of the photos. "In the past year, JWST has continued to fuel new discoveries, as well as returning more spectacular views of the universe around us," he writes.
  • Kate Mothes showcases images from Skander Khif's series The Tree of Life that documents a typical afternoon for an old man who often visits 'the wind tree,' prized for its ability to withstand strong, salty winds. "Encounters like this are precisely why I became a photographer -- meeting beautiful souls, hearing their stories and making friends," Khif says.
  • Charlotte Jansen reviews the exhibit The Camera Never Lies of photographs from global conflicts and crises on view at the Sainsbury Centre, Norwich, until Oct. 20.
  • Julieanne continues her series on Lightroom Classic with a demonstration of using Face Detection in People view to find and tag people with keywords:

  • In Adding Some Atmosphere With the Orton Effect, Julie Powell "blends two different photos of the same scene to achieve a mix of high and low detail areas" in Photoshop (with a link to another article showing how to do it in Lightroom).

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
