In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Joe Biden, Seasides, Till Brönner, Nature's Clock, Elias Artista's Cicero and magic.
- The Guardian presents images of Joe Biden's Political Career Across the Decades from a variety of sources.
- Sophie Wright reviews Seasides, an outdoor exhibit in Marseille that brings together five photographers who explore the collective space of the seaside. "An ode to the Mediterranean, Seasides celebrates the beauty of the sea, its cultural influence and its curative effect on the people that visit and use it," she writes.
- Till Brönner presents The Melting Pott, his impressions of people and places in Europe, at the Ludwig Museum in Budapest.
- Rob Wood presents Light Stalking's June Contest Winners. The theme, Nature's Clock, was judged by Giancarlo Pawelec, who provides some commentary along with the winners.
- Elias Artista, a senior environment artist at Bethesda Game Studios, uses Photoshop with Magnific to bring Ancient Statues to life. Here's Cicero:
- In On Magic, Andrew Molitor considers the charm of rituals. "Modernism, the human urge to progress, constantly seeks to press the boring steps of ritual magic into a machine," he writes. "We seek to rid ourselves of the tedious, the repetitive." There's just one problem. "The observation I'm working my way around to is that people like ritual magic. We like the results of it and we like doing it. It tickles something inside us."
