In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Mariel Tyler, post processing portraits, the Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo, the He3 Anti-Theft Grip and two failures.
- Mariel Tyler's Beach Day was shot at Coney Island on an iPhone 5C in 2015. 'The various silhouettes, Mariel adds, capture what a day at the beach is all about: 'Made up of many little moments and authentic human interactions in an otherwise chaotic world,'" writes Grace Holliday.
- In A Portrait of an Attorney, Kirk Tuck shows two final images from a recent job and discusses how he got them from the Raw files.
- In This Camera Was a Lot of Fun!, Greg Sheard takes a $199 Fujifilm Instax Mini Evo to a wedding. It "offers me more than just a quick shot and instant print; it offers me a hybrid solution where I can snap images and then decide later if I want to print them or not," he writes. You can also make a Bluetooth connection to your smartphone to transfer images for sharing or printing.
- Kevin Raber reviews the $480 He3 Anti-Theft Grip for the Leica Q3 from the Helium Design Lab. It's only the first in this innovative line of grips. You have to remove the grip to get to an optional Apple AirTag and the grip securing screw is an anti-tamper design, hence it's "anti-theft" by design.
- Mike Johnston tells the story of Two Failures to get images right under his nose. "There are now two great once-in-a-lifetime pictures I could have had since I got the new camera that I missed," he writes.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
