In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at NASA's Chandra, Day 5 of the Olympics, Jerome Brouillett, hiking or biking and the Nikon D2Hs.
- NASA has released 25 Images to Celebrate NASA's Chandra 25th Anniversary. "They represent the wide range of objects that the telescope has observed over its quarter century of observations," the agency noted. "The images range from supernova remnants, like Cassiopeia A, to star-formation regions like the Orion Nebula, to the region at the center of the Milky Way."
- John Windmill curates images of Day 5 of the Paris Olympics from Getty, AFP, AP, Reuters and the Guardian.
- In The Perfect Shot of an Olympic Surfer's Record-Breaking Ride, Natalie Escobar showcases Jerome Brouillett's image of Brazil's Gabriel Medina reacting after getting a large wave in the third men's surfing round of the Olympic Games.
- Derrick Story asks, Hiking or Biking for Summer Photo Adventures? "In my opinion, bikes are best to get you to locations in a point A to point B fashion. But once you're there, it's best to get off the bike, lock it up, then explore your photo opps on foot," he writes.
- Kirk Tuck remembers making magazine covers with the 4-Mp Nikon D2Hs.
