In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP and Reuters week in pictures, the Yeast Photo Festival, good enough, making a hologram, kids and an update on the publicity altercation at Arlington National Cemetery.
- The Associated Press showcases its Week in Pictures: Global. We're speechless. Reuters posts its Pictures of the Week as well.
- Images from the Yeast Photo Festival show "how human food consumption and production affects the social sphere and contributes to climate catastrophe." The festival run form Sept. 19 to Nov. 3 in Matino and Salento, Italy.
- In Good Enough, Jim Kasson considers the plea to avoid perfectionism. "Good engineering comes down to judicious choices among imperfect alternatives," he writes. "Is making art different?" Yes and no, he answers (imperfectly).
- Matthew Schreiber shows How to Make a Hologram for the upcoming PST exhibition Sculpting with Light: Contemporary Artists and Holography:
- In September 05, 2024 They Grow Up Too Quickly, Kirk Tuck confessed he has been on his own for over a week and it was getting to him. "I rarely feel 'glum' but when I do I head to my galleries of photos and browse through the family folders," he writes. "There I find great joy and satisfaction."
- In rebuttal to the Trump campaign's denial of its involvement in its altercation at Arlington National Cemetery, NPR reporters who broke the story identify the two Trump staffers involved in producing campaign imagery in Section 60 where "only an official Arlington photographer can take pictures or film." See Trump Deputy Campaign Manager Identified in Arlington National Cemetery Dustup for the details.
