PSA: Vaccination Time Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

9 September 2024

Joyce requires a monthly RN home visit in addition to three-times-a-week LVN home visits so we get regular front line reports on the Covid situation in San Francisco. And infections have been increasing, the nurses tell us.

Vaccination Station. Two at a time but not at lunch time.

In response to the nationwide increase in infections, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone six months and older get the 2024-25 Covid-19 vaccine for better protection against potentially serious illness this fall and winter.

So when we went to see the ophthalmologist* last week, we were amused to see a vaccination table in the waiting room. What a great idea. Instead of sitting around idly waiting to be called in for your appointment, you can put the time to good use by getting vaccinated.

Both the new Covid-19 (Pfizer and Moderna) and the flu shot were available. So we got them both in the same arm.

When we got home we found our helpful HMO had emailed these tips for staying healthy this season. So we thought we'd pass them along as a public service announcement:

  • Recognize the symptoms of cold, flu, respiratory syncytial virus and Covid-19 and know how to care for yourself when you're under the weather.
  • Keep a few Covid-19 self-tests at home and test if you have symptoms. This September, the federal government will restart its program to deliver four free Covid-19 self-tests per household.
  • Practice healthy habits like washing your hands and staying home when you're sick.
  • Follow CDC guidance to help prevent the spread when you're sick.

We may live in an era when it's fashionable to argue against public health but we're old fashioned. We still believe if everyone took care of themselves fewer of us would become ill.

So, you know, take care of yourself.
