It's always harvest time for the Meyer lemons but September in also harvest time for apples. The birds usually get to them before we do, but this year we've still got a chance to fill a basket.

The trouble is seeing them. With our double vision, we get the general picture but lunging in, we miss.

So the best way to harvest our crop, we figured, was to take photographs of it.

We resorted to our longest autofocus telephoto, the 18-200mm Nikkor we had repaired. All we had to do, we figured, was compose the image. The lens would reach in and find focus for us.

We started with the lemons just to get our bearings but we quickly moved on to the apples. Then we decided to shoot a few more things growing in the garden just for fun.

Because, you know, we were having fun.

Double vision confuses us enough to topple over but looking through a viewfinder with one eye we felt quite stable. It was familiar to us.

No, we didn't pick anything.

But we'll be back. It's only a few steps away. And next time we'll have both hands free.
