In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Pictures of the Day, the 1970s, Ukraine, Benji Reid, selective coloring effects, human impact, disillusion and portraits as a genre.

- Jackie Andres reviews Meryl Meisler's black-and-white images from the 1970s collected in Street Walker. "Graflex Norita in hand, Meryl Meisler walked the streets of 1970s America and boldly photographed transient moments of coincidence," she writes.
- Byron Smith's black-and-white images document the six months he spent travelling across Ukraine, Living in a War Zone, meeting injured civilians, amateur bomb-makers and daredevil swimmers.
