In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Poland, Austin Mann in Kenya, seed pods, Kirk Tuck, Henri Dauman and visual principles.

  • Reuters reports Poland Begins Cleanup After Historic Flooding after the worst floods to hit central Europe in recent memory.
  • Austin Mann has published iPhone 16 Pro Camera Review: Kenya. "As iPhone cameras have improved over the years, finding their boundaries has become more challenging, but Kenya's vast and diverse landscape has provided the ideal setting to really push these devices to their limits," he writes. "The new 48-megapixel Ultra-Wide sensor delivers stunning results, Photographic Styles provide new tools for personalizing images and Camera Control offers a faster way to access the camera and capture shots."
  • Harold Davis shot some Seed Pods and Other Flowers with his Leica Monochrom M11.
  • Kirk Tuck concludes his Random Thoughts, "What did I give up this year? Stress."
  • In Photojournalist Who Captured America's Soul, Nilofer Khan briefly reviews Life, Lens, Legacy, an exhibit of photojournalist Henri Dauman's work capturing America in the 1960s.
  • In 'Visual Principles' Define Good Photography -- Not Technique, David Osborn explains, "How we perceive and respond to what we see: what content is included, how it's arranged compositionally, which details are emphasized, the sense of depth and three-dimensional quality, the feeling of light, mood, drama and atmosphere, etc., have all been codified into a set of 'Visual Principles.'"

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
