We left the house in the morning, a friend picking us up to take Joyce to her appointment at the clinic for wound debridement. We thought we'd be home for lunch.
But the surgeon doing the debridement didn't think it wise to send Joyce on her way. She wanted her to go to the ER, be admitted and perhaps transferred to a nursing facility. Not only was Joyce in bad shape but we weren't recovered enough to meet the increasing demands of her care.
So our friend took us to the ER and six hours later, after a battery of tests, she was admitted. She was just waiting for a room assignment when we left.
By then, we were exhausted.
We trudge up the hill to the bus stop. It's about a 40 minute ride, which would allow us to put dinner on the table by 8 p.m. And call it a night by 11, after dealing with all the texts and emails we hadn't gotten to during the day.
But as we waited eight minutes for the bus, we turned around and saw this glorious sunset. We thought the street lights, posed as sea gull wings, only added to the splendor. So we took out our phone and snapped a shot.
Sometimes, despite everything, you're glad to be alive.
