Imagine our surprise when, using Mike's Text Search for our site index, we saw some scrambled accented characters. We'd forgotten to address that when we switch our site display from ASCII to UTF-8 characters.
It was a quick fix, just instructing the page to display UTF-8 characters instead of ASCII in the header.
But at the same time, we noticed the Search form that appears at the top of the page reporting initial results appeared in the old order rather than the newer one, which lists preferred search engines in order.
So we fixed that too.
An 18-month Mike's Text Search of the site through over half a million words in 990 articles, takes about 2:30 the first time through. But a second search, after that data has been cached on the server, took only five seconds.
And it's the only search that will return complete results.
