Matinee: 'Orotone Photography: How It's Made' Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 576th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Orotone Photography: How It's Made.

This 3:30 video shows how "gold on glass" prints were made for the TV sseries 1923 with Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Sarah Coulter was the director of photography for the film.

Not only do we see the images but we see how they are made. With a little banana oil, apparently.

The story of the Yellowstone family is told in the context of technological modernization with the advent of electricity, washing machines and even photographic advances like Orotones.
