In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Southern California fire, cigars, biases, old digicams and ACDSee Photo Studio.
- In Mountain Fire Scorches Thousands of Acres in California, Reuters posts 13 photos of the Southern California disaster threatening over 10,000 people and 3,500 structures.
- Suzanne Sease features Cigars: A Biography, a handbound volume representing a 15-year collaboration between author (and cigar connoisseur) Aaron Sigmond and photographer Ian Spanier.
- In Biases in Photography, Paul Melcher suggests "there are two primary types of biases: the subjects we choose to capture and the images we ultimately decide to share." He points to photos of kitchens to show how AI misses "the richness of real, everyday life."
- Nilofer Khan finds the value of Old Digital Compact Cameras skyrocketing. Gen Z is opting for "the Nikon Coolpix series, the Olympus ยต (Mju) Mini, or the Fujifilm FinePix JV100," among others. Japanese buyers are paying twenty times the used market value in the U.S.
- ACDSee if hosting a free sneak peek of ACDSee Photo Studio for Mac 11 for 200 Connect members (you can create an account for free). he workshop will be held Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. Pacific time.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
