In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at two skaters, Market Day, contest winners, reflections, composites, a violin, the Caldigit TS4, another supermoon and Capture One.
- Hiro Komae describes how he captured The Passion of Two Skaters in a Frozen Moment. It was not what the spectators saw. "That frozen, beautiful moment captures their passionate feelings and kinetic forces that we don't see at regular speed but somehow cognitively felt," he writes.
- Paul Trevor's new book, Market Day, captures the energy of London's Sunday markets, showcasing in black and white the contrast between vibrant market activity and the rundown, pre-gentrification East End.
- Rob Wood presents Light Stalking's October photo contest winners. The theme was "The Unseen Perspective."
- Harold Davis shares two images in Reflections and That Hint of the Ineffable.
- Julieanne Kost presented Pro Techniques to Create Compelling Composites in Photoshop at MAX this year and has now posted the one-hour video.
- Zach Klein had Photoworks in San Francisco scan a bundle of negatives wrapped in paper found in his ancestral home and discovered an image of The Violin he had rescued. Aaron Morris, a luthier in North Carolina, repaired the Stradivarius replica with a "Germany" decal pasted inside. for him.
- In Cheapskate Splurges, Mike Johnston buys a Caldigit TS4. "It's got 18 connections, including two card slots and three audio jacks," he enthuses. He's consequently selling his fast Wise Advanced Co. Taiwanese-made card reader.
- Chandelis Duster reports on The Final Supermoon of the Year This Weekend. "November's full moon, called the Beaver Moon, will appear larger and brighter than a regular full moon. The moon, which NASA says will rise at 4:29 p.m. ET Friday, is the fourth supermoon in a row since August," he writes.
- Capture One offers an intriguing incentive to subscribe by offering 20 percent off on a perpetual license for each year you subscribe. "And it stacks, which means, after five years, you can cancel your subscription and get a free license," the company said.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
