In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the week in photos, New Zealand Architecture Awards, Jurica Galić and Nathan Benn.

  • The Associated Press shares its Week in Pictures: Global curated by AP photo editor Pamela Hassell.
  • The New Zealand Architecture Awards are spread across 11 categories, including housing, commercial, heritage, interior and international architecture. The photos are in a class of their own.
  • Back to the Past is Jurica Galić's best phone shot. "My goal was to capture the relationship between man and nature and while staying in the camp I came up with the idea of taking some photos through the horns of one of the animals. They became the frame, leading the viewer to the scene," he says. "Meanwhile, the smoke rising, in combination with the setting sun and the remaining rays, created the most magical backdrop."
  • Mike Johnston took in the Nathan Benn Show at the Rockwell Museum in Corning, N.Y., which showed 19 inkjet prints of Benn's Kodachrome images. "I think I've officially decided that inkjet prints of Kodachrome originals are among my favorite photographic media," he writes. "They can be lovely. It's like the two techniques from different eras were somehow made for each other."

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
