In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Pictures of the Day, Fred W McDarrah, Ben Zank, Charlotte Schreiber and the best color film.
- Reuters posts 24 Pictures of the Day by its photographers across the globe.
- In Pride and Protest, Veronica Esposito reviews the exhibit of 60 photographs documenting four decades of work that Fred W McDarrah made documenting the fight for civil rights among Manhattan's LGBTQ+ community. The show runs at the New York Historical until July 2025.
- In My Brain Took an Extended Vacation, Grace Ebert features the "bizarre visual language" of Ben Zank. Bizarre and amusing.
- Charlotte Schreiber Breaks Up With Her Identity as a Photographer. writes Angie Smith, who interviews the former photographer. "I photographed a grief counselor once and the memory [of a death] popped in my head again," Schreiber says. "I thought: this could be something. The second I said it out loud, I thought: This is what I’m going to do."
- The Absolute Best Color Film, Mike Johnston says, ia "favorite color film. H explains, "Some materials just 'mesh' well with our own way of seeing and yield their gifts every time we use them."
