Matinee: Tyler Sherer, Leica Photographer Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 580th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Tyler Sherer, Leica Photographer.

In this 1:40 film by Andrew Leggett we ride along California State Route 58 through Mojave, stopping where Tyler Sherer, a tattoo artist, painter and photographer in Thousand Oaks, spots something that would make a photograph.

Sherer was interviewed about his tattoo work in Shoutout LA last year. His Instagram feed features a slide show of his black-and-white photographs.

The film, though, shows him at work, driving down the road, loading film, sizing up his composition and what he made of each scene in black-and-white.

It may be brief but it tells the whole story.
