In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's week in pictures, the Arctic Ocean, a modern Guadalupe, Kate Winslet, prints on a wall and Ed French's murderers.
- The Associated Press showcases its Week in Pictures curated by AP Assistant Director of Photography Courtney Dittmar and photo editor Anita Baca.
- Grace Holliday features Arctic Ocean, Huw Lewis-Jones's best phone picture shot in 2018. "The polar bear Lewis-Jones captured with his iPhone 7 was searching for seals, which haul themselves out on to the floe or come up in the breathing holes," she writes.
- Pablo Valdivia takes a look at Amanda Lopez's Guadalupe, a project that pays homage to the "divine feminine energy, sacredness, and healing that Guadalupe's imagery can encapsulate for people of all genders and backgrounds" as she imagines Our Lady of Guadalupe in a modern context. "I wanted to move beyond traditional notions about womanhood and let viewers create their own meanings," Lopez says.
- In Kate Winslet on Using a Rolleiflex, Mike Johnston presents the 60 Minute interview in which the actress who plays Lee Miller talks about shooting with the twin lens reflex.
- A Reddit poster asks for a simple way to display Multiple 6x4 Prints on a Wall.
- Max Harrison-Caldwell reports, "Fantasy Decuir and Lamonte Mims, both 27, were convicted of first-degree murder in the July 16, 2017, shooting of Ed French." The 71-year-old photographer on Twin Peaks was murdered on Twin Peaks. "French was taking photographs at the popular vantage point with a new camera when Decuir and Mims approached and robbed him at gunpoint," he writes.
