In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at 2024, AP's sports week, Tony Dočekal and bread with Lens Blur.
- Carolyn Ryan presents The Photos That Defined 2024 (gift link) for the New York Times. "This collection of images is a way to remember the year, but it is also, we hope, an opportunity to better understand their craft and their devotion to producing the world's best photojournalism," she writes.
- The Associated Press showcases its Sports Week in Pictures from around the world.
- The photographs in The Color of Money and Trees were made by Dutch photographer Tony Dočekal during several visits to Arizona and California over a six-year period while volunteering for an organization working with the unhoused.
- Mike Johnston bakes some No Need Bread using Photoshop's Lens Blur filter. "I see why people just want to load up a roll of film in a camera that merely takes pictures and head out into the world to go a-hunting," he writes.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
