In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at odd photos, Assad's prisons, Loli Kantor, Mike Johnston, calendars and adventure tips.
- Reuters publishes 11 of Our Oddest Photos of the Week.
- Associated Press photographer Mosa'ab Elshamy photographed the graffiti on the Walls of Assad's Prisons. "They plead to God and yearn for loved ones," he writes. "Often mysterious, they preserve fragments of what anonymous men were thinking as they faced torture and death."
- Suzanne Sease features Call Me Lola, the personal project of Loli Kantor honoring her mother. "I'm expressing my love for her, bringing her back to life and giving her a voice," she writes.
- In The Artist's Statement (Bones Part III), Mike Johnston continues his discussion of "the idea of the idea." He suggests, "An idea is good if it facilitates and motivates working, so that's how you have to evaluate it."
- Kevin Raber, who often writes about the importance of printing images, shows how to Make Your Own Calendar. In one page or 12 and with a wooden stand.
- Kennan Hursh has nine Beginner Tips for Your Next Photography Adventure. "Preparation is the key to a successful photography adventure," he writes.
