In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Richard Sharum, Postcards From the Border, Ethan Swope, fluorescing foliage, Aaron Anderson, American Job: 1940-2011, 2025 innovations and the Fediverse for photographers.

  • A Journey Down America's Spine features Richard Sharum's photos of the central states often referred to as "flyover country" to see what people in those planes miss.
  • Postcards From the Border "is a new production by three acclaimed Latino artists using music, photographs and spoken word to give a more organic view of the often misunderstood region."
  • Ethan Swope came across A Compassionate Moment at the Eaton Fire. "As I took pictures, I saw a woman get pushed down the street, the light of emergency vehicles glowing behind and through the smoke," he writes. "The wind blew her hair. There is a sense of urgency."
  • Kate Mothes presents Tom Leighton's image of fluorescing foliage from his latest series Fabled Gardens II.
  • Suzanne Sease features Periphery, the personal project of Aaron Anderson. "The idea was relatively simple, creating authentic portraits of people struggling with homelessness, but it involved quite a few moving parts that needed a team of people to solve," he says. "In the end this project was even bigger than I could have dreamed of and the images are still being used to this day to raise money and awareness in our community."
  • Nilofer Khan reviews American Job: 1940-2011, an exhibition on view through May 5 at the International Center of Photography.
  • Zach Sutton lists Five Photo & Video Innovations to Look Forward to in 2025. They include third-party lenses, AI retouching tools, color matching, working lens profiles and more obscure optics.
  • Geoffrey Giebelhaus explains The Fediverse for new users, with a focus on photographers. "Some great photography based ones I like are: #MountainMonday, #LandscapePhotography, #NatureLovers, #NaturePhotography and #WaterWednesday," he writes about his favorite tags.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
