When we came into the living room the other day we did a double take. Who had turned on the old brass lamp?

Evening. Olympus E-PL1 with 14-42mm II R kit lens at 38mm (76mm equivalent), f9, 1/80 second and ISO 1600. Processed in Adobe Camera Raw.

It turns out no one had. It was just the late afternoon sunlight coming through the picture window aimed right at the lamp shade.

We had to laugh at ourselves, of course. Then we noticed the ornament of a joker hung from the lamp, his shadow doubling his appearance. And emphasizing the joke to us.

We went back to the studio to grab a camera and dashed up the stairs to take the shot before the sun moved on.

We looked at our capture on the camera's LCD, confirming we'd got what we wanted. Then we looked back at the lamp but by then the sun had moved on and the lamp sat in the shadow of the room.

Joke over.
