In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Super Bowl LIX stills, Super Bowl Commercials, the OM-3, software and tillman crane.

  • The Guardian curates images of Super Bowl LIX that include the game, the halftime show and the celebration. Reuters adds 30 of its on Best of Super Bowl LIX photos.
  • Eric Deggans presents The Best (And Worst) Super Bowl Commercials This Yearincluding one "that's advocacy at its most effective."
  • In OM System OM-3: My Take on the Controversy, Mike Johnston writes, "It shows that there are people at OMDS who care about cameras. And about photographers." We note that among those slotting the OM-3 "between the existing OM-1 and OM-5" is OM itself at the press briefing we attended. And we'll emphasize the inclusion of a Computational Photography button whose effects only affect JPEG captures indicates attention is being paid to phone photographers. The retro thing is really something Olympus started and OM continues and, in its case, represents a full-featured compact design that time has not improved.
  • The Software Landscape Continues to Morph, observes Thom Hogan. He begins with the Adobe Photography Plan. "Unlike some vendors, Adobe has shown that they're using the SaaS (software as a service) fees to continue to do extensive and fairly frequent feature and performance benefits. Today's Photoshop is so much better than the original Photoshop CC it's difficult to describe (and would take me a lot of writing to do justice to)." And he continues with Capture One and On1 Photo Raw.
  • Kevin Raber has posted the 1:27:00 Tillman Crane video recording titled Can an Old Dog Learn New Tricks?, along with a few of Crane's stills.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
