Site Tweak: OpenAI, ChatGPT

We were more than a little shocked this morning to see the site has been hit with seven times the traffic by OpenAI and ChapGPT. Fortunately the software we wrote to monitor traffic warned us about the intrusion before our bandwidth allocation was threatened.
That might explain why we had such a hard time yesterday accessing the site after we put up our first story. It was busy serving artificial intelligence bots.
So if you too experienced unusual delays in access, that's probably what was going on. There's a lot of information on Photo Corners going back to 2012. In fact, as of yesterday evening, there were 9,644 articles and 5,990,990 words on the 4.35-GB site. Retrieving it all takes some time and these bots tend to retrieve the whole site repeatedly.
In this case, we've added prohibitions in our robots.txt file on the site to prevent such rudeness. We'll see if these agents actually respect that, as they promise.
