In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Reuters, Paolo Pellegrin, Sony World Photography Awards, Walker Evans and Retrospective bags deal.

  • Reuters posts 21 Pictures of the Day, including the Eiffel Tower lit up in the national colors of Ukraine to mark the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
  • Meduza features Magnum Photos photographer Paolo Pellegrin's The Silence of War, his black-and-white images that "show the pain and destruction Russia's invasion has inflicted on Ukraine" during the last three years. "His black-and-white photographs capture the silence that lingers after the deafening echoes of gunfire, explosions and screams."
  • Sony has announced its Professional Finalists and Shortlist of the Sony World Photography Awards.
  • Francis Hodgson spotlights Walker Evans's photo of a Cuban Stevedore. "Great photographers control our readings of pictures," he writes. "See how two blemishes on the left (his left) of his nose, one smaller by the corner of the eye and one larger by the nostril and the line of freckles on the right (his right) of his nose simply demand to be read as tears running down the face."
  • Think Tank Photo is offering 15 percent off through Mar. 6 on its Retrospective bag series. You can also get a free Tote bag when you use this discount code: FreeTote20.

Our schedule today will delay some gear announcements, unfortunately. And we note yesterday's "Twitter" feed wasn't accessible (but seems to be restored today), which is why we recommend following us with the RSS feed. So more to come, one way or another! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
