In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Oscars, Ramadan, compact travel cameras, normal lenses, CP+ and Ctein.
- Matt Fidler, Morwenna Ferrier and Chloe Mac Donnell present images from the Oscars Red Carpet. Fidler curates images from the Oscars Afterparties, too. Linda Holmes details who actually won what at the Oscars in between the red carpet and afterparties. And Dhanika Pineda conveniently provides The Complete List of Winners. (Oh, and Reuters presents the Best Candid Photos From the Oscars, including the chewing gum toss.)
- The Associated Press presents its image of Muslims in the Middle East celebrating Ramadan "amid political upheavals and postwar turmoil."
- In Finding the Best Compact Travel Camera, LensRentals looks at the Leica D-lux 8, Fuji x100 VI and Sony ZV-E1.
- Mike Johnston posts Part I of The Big Honkin' Normals of Now with a look back at what size a normal 135 lens used to be.
- Thom Hogan takes a look at The View After CP+. "I will say that predicting anything for the coming year is a giant game of uncertainty," he writes.
- Mike Johnston also reports Ctein Is Leaving the U.S. Permanently, putting his Daly City home up for sale. "As he put it to me, 'There's a whiff of 1932 Germany in the air. Probably, very probably, things will not get that bad. But the folks in Germany in 1932 who thought to themselves, "Things can't get that bad," well ... for the most part they died or fled with the clothes on their back and little more.'"
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
