In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the International Day of Happiness, Dona Ann McAdams, family-owned farms and ranches, new Camera Raw enhancements and high-speed flash photography.
- It's apparently International Day of Happiness so Marc Silver and Ben de la Cruz have assembled nine photos from photojournalists of The Everyday Projects to put a smile on your face. "Declared by the United Nations in 2013, this special day recognizes the importance of happiness as 'a fundamental goal' in people's lives around the world," they write. And, yes, there's a theme each year. This year it's "caring and sharing."
- The Guardian has selected images and quotes from Black Box: A Photographic Memoir by Dona Ann McAdams, published by Saint Lucy Books. From nuclear power plants to Aids protests, the photographer has spent half a century capturing her activist community.
- Suzanne Sease features Andy Anderson's personal project supporting the family-owned farms and ranches in the U.S. "that is under stress if our Public Lands are sold."
- Julieanne Kost explores the non-destructive Single-Image Enhancements in the tech preview of Adobe Camera Raw, including Denoise, Raw Details and Super Resolution in this 4:57 video:
- Miops has published its High-Speed Flash Photography: A Complete Guide, a free online guide to "a fascinating technique that allows photographers to freeze fast-moving subjects."
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
