Matinee: 'Nutrient Concentration' Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 596th in our series of Saturday matinees today: Nutrient Concentration.

This 1:04 video raises an interesting question. "Have Rahel Zuber's photographs of idyllic agricultural landscapes been damaged by time or the elements?"

They are obviously stained so the question is a fair one. But the staining is intentional.

Working with film and processing it herself, she decided to incorporate liquids from the environments she was photographing in the process itself.

"The result is a reflection on water pollution and on how photography can reveal what the naked eye cannot perceive," the liner notes say.

"I like to deal intensively with different techniques and styles of photography to further develop my skills," she explains on her Web site. "In addition to digital photography, I have developed a preference for analog photography and like to experiment with different films and development processes."

Outright prolonged applause.
