In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Ukraine's bomb shelters, conflict images, Badwater Basin, Perrin James, more on tariffs and Micron.
- Reuters presents 23 photos of Ukraine's Underground Bomb Shelters. They remind us of Henry Moore's drawings of Londoners sheltering from the Blitz during the Second World War. And, for that matter, of the inhabitants found in the ashes of Pompeii.
- No Iconic Images is an exhibition at the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool that displays work by a new generation of Magnum photographers with an eye on the editorial decisions made by Guardian news picture editors when selecting conflict images.
- Julieanne Kost presents her Badwater Basin Full Tutorial. "Even though I am demonstrating the concepts/features using Lightroom, the same techniques can be used in Lightroom Classic and/or Adobe Camera Raw," she writes.
- Heidi Volpe interviews Perrin James about his cover shot for the Patagonia Spring25 Catalog and shooting under water in general.
- Thom Hogan makes One Last Take (For Now) on Tariffs. "Prices will probably go up less than you think," he writes. "But any increase that ends up in the 10-20 percent range is still going to be seriously felt by the photographic community."
- Reuters reports Micron to Impose Tariff-Related Surcharge on Some Products including memory modules and SSDs. Starting tomorrow. The U.S. memory chipmaker's overseas manufacturing sites are largely based in Asia, including China, Taiwan, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore.
