In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Color Photography Contest, Marai Photo Grant, GDT Nature Photographer of the Year, Pictures of the Month, dogs and deprecated Nikon software.

  • Winners of the 1839 Awards Color Photography Contest have been announced. Named after the year the medium was first made widely available to the public, 1839 Awards offers a series of competitions to honor photographers using photography as an art form.
  • Shefali Rafiq and Muhammad Amdat Hossain are the winners of the Marai Photo Grant. Click on their portraits to learn more about their projects, both involving water in an era of climate change.
  • Alan Taylor showcases the winners of the GDT Nature Photographer of the Year selected from over 8,000 entries from 11 countries.
  • Reuters highlights 40 Pictures of the Month for April.
  • "The next Baker's Dozen theme will be Dogs," Mike Johnston wrote before he lost power. "So be thinking of that."
  • In Deprecated Nikon Software, Thom Hogan lists a number of missing products from the Nikon download center, including "Picture Control Utility, NEF Codec, Short Movie Creator, plus all the earlier programs such as the original versions of Capture, View and PictureProject."

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
