In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Associated Press, Reuters, Gui Christ, light painting, digitizing at the Internet Archive and Norm's connection to photo history.
- The Associated Press showcases its Top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Pamela Hassell.
- Reuters adds 20 Pictures of the Week from around the world.
- In M'Kumba, Rebecca Horne interviews Brazilian photographer Gui Christ. His photography "mines a rich vein combining portraiture, iconography, activism and anthropology to document how Afro-Brazilian religions take a stand against intolerance," she writes. "M'Kumba, for us, is a sacred word," he says. "It means a meeting of wise men."
- Zach Sutton offers A Guide to Light Painting Photography. "When done right, you can really maximize the lighting you're using or, better yet, add a level of surreal lighting to your images," he writes.
- The Internet Archive's Microfiche Digitization Livestream by preserving government documents and making them free for everyone. You can see it happen in real time:
- Mike Johnston unravels 'Norm!' and His Photo-History Connection, which may be a little gruesome for some tastes.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
