In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's photos of the week, that Swiss village, Michael Shaw, a MacBook Air M4 and ChatGPT.

  • The Associated Press showcases its Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Pamela Hassell.
  • In Swiss Residents in Shock After Glacier Debris Buries Village, Reuters shares 12 photos of the devastation caused by a glacier that buried most of a Swiss village "in what scientists suspect is a dramatic example of climate change's impact on the Alps."
  • In The Oval Office as Demon's Lair, Michael Shaw examines the Oval Office stage in light of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa's visit to the White House. "The boom mikes themselves become props, positioned prominently in news photos and featured almost fetishistically on the Trump Flickr site, suggesting the world hangs on his every word," he writes. "Beyond the staging mechanics, the suffocation extends to the gilded excess. He has crowded the room with gaudy gold appliqué, kitsch memorabilia and a mantle overflowing with trophies."
  • Derrick Story explains My Move From the MBP to the MacBook Air M4. "I settled on the 10‑core CPU (4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores) with the 10‑core GPU, 24-GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. The cost was $1,599," he writes. "Subtract the $810 trade-in and my outlay for the new laptop was $789."
  • A Reddit poster reports ChatGPT Recommended My Wife for a Job to a Client. Apparently ChatGPT is the new Google.
