In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at an airstrike, two medium format options, Generate Image examples, composition, podcasting, RawTherapee, Photoshop on Android and inherting an archive.
- Associated Press photographer Jehad Alshrafi captured the moment An Israeli Airstrike hit Gaza City. His images "show a fireball, a massive cloud of smoke and people running away after Sunday’s strike. Israel had warned residents before hitting the building, and there were no reports of casualties," he writes.
- In Price and Performance: Hasselblad X vs. Fujifilm GFX, Jim Kasson compares two medium format options. "In the end, both systems produce excellent images," he concludes.
- In Generate Image Examples, Julieanne Kost explores how settings like Image Effects, Style Reference and Composition Reference influence the results of an image prompt in Photoshop. "To get a clearer sense of what each option does, I generated a series of images using the same simple prompt -- 'Yellow Labrador' -- with the Content Type set to Art.
- In Photographic Composition: The Devil Is in the Details, Jason Row suggests the trick is to avoid trying to capture everything in a scene rather than isolate a subject.
- Derrick Story presents Photographers Talking About Podcasting in his latest podcast, including chats with Randal Schwartz and Frederick Van. "Photographers tend to be good at many things," he writes. "And I think there's a synergy that emerges from that diversity."
- RawTherapee [LMW] has been updated to version 5.12. New features include Dehaze, Distortion Correction, Gamut Compression, among other enhancements.
- Adobe has announced Photoshop Arrives on Android. And it's a free download on Google Play.
- A Reddit poster Inherited a Large Photo Archive of significant work by an accomplished Brazilian photojournalist. The question is what to do with it.
