In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Ralph Gibson, hitchhikers, the Chinese lens industry, James Evangelista and a Lensbaby webinar.
- In Contorted Bodies and Bare Bottoms, Ralph Gibson talks about his favorite images.
- Riding With Strangers showcases Doug Biggert's photos of the Northern California hitchhikers he picked up in the 1970s. "A hitchhiker is someone you may know for an hour, or a day, or, every so often, a little longer, yet, when you leave them, they’re gone. If I took a picture, I reasoned, I’d have a memory."
- In Those Cheeky Chinese, Mike Johnston looks at the Chinese lens industry based on reproductions of older lens designs.
- Suzanne Sease features photos from Temporal and Eternal, the personal project of James Evangelista. "In the world of solidity and structure, the silence of the desert, the play of light and shadow and the forces of wind and water resounds with images that are stirring, touching and profound," he writes.
- Lensbaby is hosting a free online webinar on Creative Art Lenses Thursday, June 12, at 5 p.m. PST. Registration required.
