In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at AP's photos of the week, Raw converter use of embedded JPEGs, a dog resting, wind, framing dye transfer prints and using Lightroom's Lens Blur.

  • The Associated Press presents its Top Photos of the Week curated by photo editor Anne Marie Belgrave.
  • Jim Kasson asks, Do Raw Developers Use the Embedded JPEG as a Color Reference? He doesn't think so. After chasing a few tails, he condludes "as far as I can tell, the embedded JPEG in a raw file is just a preview that is useful for fast image browsing and chimping, but not a reference for image development."
  • Rebecca Blackwell captured A Dog Resting among tree roots in the drought-plagued Everglades. "The directional tree roots and the patch of sunlight all point your attention to the middle of the frame where the dog is lying," she writes. "I don't like the trash present in the shot, but it was still relevant to the overall meaning since it had been exposed by the low waters."
  • Dahlia Ambrose shows 21 Photos That Will Inspire You to Photograph on a Windy Day.
  • Mike Johnston reminds us that Ctein's Dye Transfer Sale Ends Today but the piece also details some peculiar framing requirements for dye transfer prints.
  • A Reddit poster wonders how people use Lightroom's Lens Blur and gets some interesting answers.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
