In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the French Open, Eid Al-Adha, a modest proposal and food photography errors.
- The Associated Press presents "the small details that bring The French Open to life." It's an unusual approach to sports photography. And a breath of fresh air.
- Reuters presents 24 photos of Muslims around the world celebrating Eid Al-Adha.
- Jim Kasson's A Modest Proposal is that "we do away not only with equivalence, but with all other technical concepts which might -- by requiring explanation -- injure the tranquility of photographic discourse." There go f-stops, shutter speed, depth of friend, the circle of confusion, ISO and even white balance. "Finally, all measurements should be replaced by presets named after animals or personality traits," he adds.
- Nilofer Khan lists Four Errors to Avoid in Food Photography. A fifth occurred to us immediately. Don't eat your subject. Not right away, anyway.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
