Breakfast in Bed

8 August 2020

Just after I made a nice big latte for breakfast, Joyce called to say good morning from her suite in the palatial Kaiser Tower on Geary Blvd. She needed something to do while she waited for her breakfast to arrive.

"They overdo it," she said when I asked what she ordered (of course, you can order room service at the palatial Kaiser Tower). "So I told them I just wanted a cheese omelette."

"So when did you get into surgery last night?" I asked.

"Around 11:30," she said.

That was after my bedtime, as it turned out.

"And when did you get back to your room [in the palatial Kaiser Tower]?"

"Between 1 and 2 a.m.," she thought.

Dr. Tong told her the second surgery "went well." The goal was to clean up the area she'd worked on last time. There is a section of the wound above where the abscess was that is more trouble than the rest.

They want her to resume physical therapy today (presumably sitting in that chair for an hour). She said there are so many people coming and going that she has to bring them up to speed each time someone comes in.

"You need a big sign that says, 'I Can't Move!'" I told her. She laughed. She can still laugh.

That's all I could find out before breakfast was served. In bed.
