Deliverables

14 September 2020

As sister-in-law Judy1 once pointed out (long, long ago) you will distinguish yourself if you merely do what you say you will do. She was talking about working with clients but it's apparently a general rule of the universe.

Because it's still as true as ever if recent experience can be trusted.

As we mentioned Friday, when our new washer and dryer both arrived damaged, the installer said he'd be back on Saturday with new machines to do the job.

I took "advantage" of the delay, you might say, to clean the concrete floor and put the dryer back in service. Because, you know, the new machines would be here the next day.

Uh, no.

Not, Saturday, not Sunday, not Monday. When I called the delivery (uh, logistics) company on Saturday, Connie looked up the order and said it had been rescheduled for Sept. 22. You know, in the distant future.

I called Lowe's customer support number after that to see what the problem was. If it was a stock issue, maybe they could check nearby stores. If it was a supply problem, I'd have to wait for the new shipment, of course.

Brian had no clue. But he offered to email the local store to expedite the order. I heard him typing. "You'll get a call within 24 hours," he promised.

Uh, no.

Not Sunday, not Monday.

* I had to apply more of the draping adhesive this afternoon when it rolled up on Joyce and started sticking to her skirt. She didn't want to disturb me in the bunker so she called Tyler. He suggested she talk to me about it because I'd solved a similar problem over the weekend with my excellent taping skills.

We're running low on the large white foam pads that cover the wound, Tyler pointed out on Friday. So I reordered on Friday. It will be there Monday, the clerk promised.

It's 5 p.m. Monday as I write this and, uh, no, it hasn't arrived. It's possible it could still arrive. Any time until 9 p.m.

But I'm not holding my breath. The air quality is still unhealthy at 170. So I'm panting like a dog instead of holding my breath.

Although the situation is getting dicey. You have to be here to sign for the stuff and our cupboards are bare. I have to go shopping to both Costco and Trader Joe's. So we'll either have foam and food or we'll starve waiting for foam.

Salwa2 the LVN did the dressing change today under Tyler's supervision.

Cutting the foam* to fit is challenging as is putting the drape on. You would not believe how complex it is to remove the barriers from the drape to apply it. It's like a band-aid that you pull the top off too. For some unrevealed reason (probably hygienic).

Salwa had texted me the night before to ask if she could come with Tyler at 9 a.m. the next morning. Sure, I texted back, we were expecting you then.

And sure enough Tyler and Salwa arrived on time. Imagine that.
