Making a Sonogram

8 October 2020

This morning Kaiser scheduled an ultrasound for Joyce at 1:10 p.m. But we forgot something. We had a delivery from Apria of Wound VAC supplies coming.

They don't leave those at the door. You have to be there. When they see you, they sign your name for them. You don't handle the pen as a Covid-19 safety precaution. Smart.

At 12:30, I realized we might be away for the ultrasound just when the delivery arrived. Which would not be good because we only have enough supplies to get through tomorrow.

Somehow I don't think this is the end of the story.

I wasn't sure how long the procedure would be (Joyce thought 20 minutes) but we'd likely be away from the house for a couple of hours.

So I texted Alice to see if she would be around. And before she had a chance to answer, the door bell rang and there was FedEx with the delivery. All I had to do was ask Alice to come over, apparently.

I took a photo of the four boxes of supplies and texted it to Alice with a note to nevermind.

"Those are the magic words!" she texted back.

SO OFF WE WENT to Kaiser where I dropped Joyce off, drove to the park to take some photos for tomorrow's slide show and came back for her when she called.

All perfectly timed. I was just getting back in the car when the phone rang.

She said they made sonograms all up and down her leg so Dr. Brenman, her primary care provider, can see if she has a blot clot.

The swelling, Joyce said, is very bad today. So something is going on.

The new Wound VAC is doing its job but that doesn't help reduce the swelling.

I'll update this post if we hear from Joyce's doctor today. Somehow I don't think this is the end of the story.
