Monday, Monday

19 October 2020

Yeah, that old the Mamas & the Papas song. Monday, Monday, what else can you say?

Salwa came at 10 again, right on the dot, to do the dressing change using the last tube of Lidocaine.

It wasn't clear from Dr. Tong whether she had arranged to have more delivered to the house by mail or not. That's what she said but Joyce didn't have a credit card on file at the pharmacy because she has no prescriptions (whatsoever).

So someone at the pharmacy called on Friday to get payment information and passed her along to the pharmacist who explained they don't have quite the same thing (it's a cream not a gel and it's five percent concentration not two). He said you can get the stuff over the counter at CVS and Walgreens but Joyce opted for the Kaiser product.

By mail. It's not easy getting into the pharmacy these days and it isn't easy getting around with the Wound VAC either.

But the pharmacist worried she might not get it by the time she needs it. That would be Wednesday.

Fortunately I have a history of mail deliveries with the pharmacy and I was sure she'd get it today. And indeed she did.

It's just one big tube with two refills authorized. The only similar product we saw on Sunday at CVS is a spray. Which sounds like a bright idea. So we might try that next.

Ah, Monday.

I SUCCUMBED TO PANIC about the washer on Sunday. I heard it thumbing during the high-speed spin cycle and worried a shock absorbed was defective.

I reported it to the assistant store manager I've been emailing about the dryer and he offered to replace it. Before the dryer arrives.

Sure, go ahead, I said.

But then I wondered if there wasn't a simpler solution. Could it be the load was just unbalanced?

I ran a light load through without any noise during the high-speed spin and this morning I ran a load of old towels through without a problem.

So I emailed him again to tell him I think it may just have been an unbalanced load. In my brain, most likely.

It was a relief to think I won't have to have another washer installed.

Ah, Monday.

Monday, Monday.

But it was actually a Monday, Monday, Monday around here. I installed a patched version of a two-year old operating system (too advanced for my hardware) on my oldest computer (the one I do all my work on, actually) so it can run some new software releases.

The patch is not officially supported but it's the only way I can keep these two laptops current. The smaller one I used to travel with has been running it for a week. During which I've sorted out each problem as it popped up making a face at me.

So today, when Salwa arrived, I bravely launched the update on the main box and ran upstairs to observe the dressing change like a coward.

But, as you can see by this post, it worked.

Which is another enormous relief to me, since this isn't an opportune time to acquire a new Mac. Especially if you have to pay for it.

And to top it all off, the fog rolled in today, cooling what had been a very uncomfortable weekend. So I put on a nice, warm flannel shirt that won't need to be laundered for a while, and sat down to write this little update.

Monday, Monday ... so good to me ... Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be ...

Hope you had a lovely Monday, too!
