The Verdict on Adaptic

25 January 2021

Salwa the RN arrived this morning to do the dressing change after I had changed the canister on the Wound VAC about 12 hours later than usual. Did the Adaptic have anything to do with that?

The canister was full of more solids than liquids this time. It's usually about two thirds solids (or semi-solids) and one-third clear fluid. But this time it was almost entirely solids.

I brought Salwa up to date on Laura's approach. Laura had promised to text Salwa about using the Adaptic but must have forgotten. So I was breaking the news.

Salwa took off the drape and then started lifting the white foam out of the wound...

Salwa said Adaptic was indeed the product Dr. Tong had been trying to order when we were going to try the black foam. It turns out nobody has to actually order it. Salwa can pick it up at the office.

So that mystery was solved. If Joyce goes to black foam after the surgery, we'll all know what to do.

So the moment of truth arrived. Salwa took off the drape and then started lifting the white foam out of the wound. It never came off easier. Just lifted off. No pain whatsoever.

In fact, it seems Joyce could be using the black foam now as long as the Adaptic is put down first. But this time at least, Salwa (who is no fan of handling the black foam herself) put the Adaptic down for the white foam.

Her big concern is taking out what is put in. So she used two pieces which she didn't cut.

When she turned the pump back on, it got to 125 quickly and shut off. Silence. She was amazed how quiet it got.

That's what we're looking for. No pain and silence.
